I agree. I think it's worth making lifestyle choices that encourage walking, such as choosing to live in a location where you can work to shops or transport. It may mean living in a smaller or older house, but my opinion is that that is outweighed by the physical and mental benefits.
Better town planning is required by encouraging the development of higher density housing closer to amenities and by raising taxes on properties that require you to drive everywhere.

I think that's the way it should be, Trish. And to be fair, I don't blame the actual pharmacists in big stores who dispense medicine - they always seem very professional and knowledgeable. It's just all the other (non-chemist stuff) that the sales staff want you to buy, when they know full well that some of it is just bad. Chocolates are one thing, but I don't think you should be made to feel guilty for not buying them (as I was)! But I definitely can't get my head around them selling cigarettes.

That is incredible, Louise. I consider our pharmacist to be on par with our local GP (General Practitioner or doctor); I accept his/her advice because they have excellent knowledge on all things pharmaceutical and medical. I would therefore lose faith in their advice if their staff were actively promoting candies.

Hi Louise,

Great work. I love this idea of keeping a blog. It is informative, a great way to reach out and get established in the field and no doubt it a good way to gell your own ideas and understanding.

Keep up the good work!

I'm reading a fabulous book called 'A year in the village of eternity' by Tracey Lawson.
It's about the lifestyle of people living in Campodimele in Italy where it's not uncommon for most people to live to be in their 90's and still enjoying a great quality of life. They work for their food and spend a lot of time outside with family and friends. It's a simple lifestyle based around food and family without the added complications and stress of city/corporate life

Thanks for that info, Jo. I'll link the ABC story to this blog. The wining and dining of doctors is a multi-billion dollar industry. There was also a recent movie with Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal that used this idea in the storyline.
